SHORT STORIES ON THE GO
IT ALL STARTED WHEN...
Well... frankly it started when I got bored working in a tech start-up. Or more accurately, at lunchtimes when I'd escape the incubator and my colleagues to stretch my legs. Coming from a background of print, branding and broadcast media I had to learn quickly about digital and the whole bubble that start-ups exist in, so ended up spending far too much time on tech-heavy sites and apps like Medium and The Next Web. They were handy, useful, but clearly designed by tech people for tech people. I'm not a tech person. I'm a designer. I'm also a lover of short stories. I've written a few, had some published, but most importantly I love it as a medium. It's a chance to discover new writers; to dip in and out and be briefly absorbed into some new world for just a few minutes. Got just 5 minutes, 10 minutes to kill...? Find a short story to fill that time!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!
I've designed an app aimed at lovers of reading - short stories on the go, specifically. My enthusiastic dev team and I want info from y'all about your reading habits and how you use your smartphones, so we can craft a great reading experience for you. Please please check out the short questionnaire and help us out. We'll love you forever. Just kidding - I already love you forever.
We hope to have a prototype ready for Android soon enough, so would really love to have you guys aboard to test it out and get your input!
WANT TO SHARE YOUR STORIES?
So, where will the stories come from? For the prototype, we'll use public domain content, but we'd really love to have original stories from you guys too! Any aspiring (or established) writers can get in touch if they'd like to contribute. Right now we're developing this for the joy of it (in fact Mário's using it for his Software Engineering Masters project), and nobody's getting a dime! In fact, if you have books for sale on Amazon, Book Depository or elsewhere we can even include a link to the sales page through the app!
WE DON'T OWN YOUR STORIES!
You will still retain 100% ownerships and rights of your stories, and if you want to pull them from the platform at any point, just let us know. If and when it starts to make some money we'll have a system in place to pay authors based on their story views and popularity. We're still working out that kind of hypothetical future stuff, but I'll keep you updated!
